WHO FOR:

Anyone carrying out treatment, routine sampling, testing, and inspections of these systems, including service providers.  Those who are considering carrying out their own monitoring work or replacing outside contractors.  Those who are responsible for sampling and testing closed systems (including water treatment technicians, consultants and maintenance personnel).  


PRE-COURSE PREPARATION:

Delegates with no chemistry background, to secondary school level or above, should complete W252 Water Treatment Chemistry Foundation before attending this course.

Students are encouraged to bring a sample of a closed system water to be analysed during the course demonstration.

 

OBJECTIVES:

  • To give delegates an understanding of what a closed system is and the critical checks for water quality management.
  • To give information on hands on aspects of water quality management in these systems and the reasons why.
  • To explain the detail of monitoring and testing including taking samples, practical analysis and test kit work.
  • To discuss the meaning of test results and the appropriate advice that might be given.  

 


TOPICS COVERED:

  • Closed System Designs
  • Problems associated with closed systems – corrosion, microbiological fouling, deposition and scale
  • Application of water treatment and how it works
  • Filtration use 
  • Impacts of positive pressure and various rates of makeup
  • Glycol and other antifreezes
  • Working safely around closed systems
  • Practical sampling, testing and interpretation

 

Includes work in the Practical Training Area.

Practical session on how to work safely and efficiently undertaking sampling for chemistry and microbiology tests. Field based test kit use, discussion on the results and actions required.



ASSESSMENT:

60 minute written exam with 70% pass mark. A resit is possible for anyone failing the exam for an additional fee within 3 months of the original course.
