WMSoc Training Courses - Evaporative Cooling Water Chemistry Advanced - W256

Details

City & Guilds accredited

ONE-DAY COURSE:  9.15am - 5pm

Lunch and refreshments provided

Printed delegate materials provided

WHO FOR:

This course is designed to inform and instruct people on how water treatment programmes for evaporative cooling systems are designed and used to control water efficiently and safely. It will allow those carrying out monthly monitoring tasks to further understand how they interpret and run cooling water systems and will provide an in depth insight into how water treatment and monitoring programmes should be designed and implemented. It will also cover the calculations you will need to design, implement, and control a cooling tower water treatment programme. Candidates should have a good working knowledge of monitoring cooling towers at a full monthly level and the requirements of a cooling water treatment programme. It will be useful for those who wish to expand their knowledge of design and control of theses types of programmes.

PRE-COURSE PREPARATION:

Students should ideally have attended W255 Evaporative Cooling Water Chemistry Foundation, or have equivalent theoretical and practical knowledge of servicing Evaporative Cooling System water treatment programmes. This is not a course for candidates who have just started out in their servicing role but those who want to enhance their exisiting knowledge within this area. Pre-reading of L8 and HSG274 part 1 would be beneficial (available as a free download from the HSE website).

OBJECTIVES:

To allow students to:

  • Understand the design and control of water treatment programmes for open cooling water systems (including evaporative condensers).
  • Understand and interpret the results and control parameters connected with an evaporative cooling programme.

TOPICS COVERED:

  • Evaporative cooling tower operation and treatment review
  • Cooling tower calculations overview
  • Group exercises on cooling tower calculations
  • Water chemistry and the effects on treatment
  • Design control parameters
  • Pre-treatment options
  • Group exercises on designing a water treatment programme

ASSESSMENT:

60 minute written exam with 70% pass mark. A resit is possible for anyone failing the exam for an additional fee within 3 months of the original course.

6 CPD points awarded.

Electronic certificates will be sent directly to successful candidates to the email address we hold on file.
