As you may be aware, the New Hospital Programme (NHP) represents the UK’s biggest hospital building programme in a generation and will deliver brand new, state-of-the-art facilities to ensure world-class provision of healthcare for NHS patients and hospital staff across England.   

 

On Monday (20 January), the Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, made a statement in the House of Commons about the New Hospital Programme.  He set out the outcome of the review into the programme that was carried out last year and announced that an NHP Plan for Implementation has been published.   Further details on the review can be accessed here, including a letter that has been shared with industry:  Government announcement on review of New Hospital Programme - New Hospital Programme

 

Following the review into the NHP and the funding secured through the Spending Review, a credible plan and timeline to deliver the new hospital schemes has been published.  This has secured 5-year waves of investment, ensuring that there is always a balanced portfolio of hospital schemes at different development stages being delivered now and into the future.  The government is backing this plan with investment which will increase up to £15bn over each consecutive 5-year wave, averaging around £3bn a year from 2030.  

 

NHP presents a fantastic opportunity for businesses of all types and sizes with a committed pipeline of work.  Following the announcement, industry now has the certainty it needs to prepare for and deliver work on the NHP programme.  This is an opportunity for businesses to make long term investments in their capabilities, create jobs, drive growth and help in delivering world leading experiences for patients and staff.
